Lecture Series: Hall of Fame Inductee Jerry Flory

Hall of Fame Inductee and longtime business owner Jerry Flory presented a lecture about the old Hawthorne Hustlers and Long Beach Night Hawks fast pitch softball teams in the Western Softball Congress. They were in the best league in the world. He also explained the difference between baseball and softball, Fast Pitch is being replaced by Slow-Pitch, injuries from pitching motions, overhand vs underhand delivery, and pitch count, He passed around an old vintage photo and displayed three different types of softballs to show the difference between the inside of them.

The Hawthorne Historical Society will meet Monday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the new Hawthorne Historical Society Museum located at Jim Thorpe Park – 14100 Prairie Avenue. Our special guest speaker will be Hall of Fame Inductee and long-time local businessman Jerry Flory – see flyer. The name of Jerry Flory is synonyms with Little League in the South Bay. For all you baseball aficionados, come out to hear how Jerry went from the backyard sandlot to being inducted into the Hall of Fame playing for the Hawthorne Hustlers. A business meeting will follow the lecture with a light agenda. Public is welcomed to our open meetings. The hours of operation for the museum hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
